Tesler’s Law, also known as the Law of Conservation of Complexity, describes a fundamental reality of system design: every system contains a certain amount of inherent complexity that cannot be eliminated.

Rooted in human–computer interaction and widely applied in UX design, this law reminds us that complexity can only be shifted — not removed. When designers oversimplify interfaces, that complexity often reappears as confusion, errors, or increased effort for users. Effective interfaces absorb complexity where possible, handling it through design and system logic rather than pushing it onto the user.

This poster presents Tesler’s Law as part of a broader collection exploring cognitive laws and UX fundamentals — created for designers, product teams, and anyone interested in managing complexity in digital products.
